Embracing Your New Identity

In previous messages entitled “The Cross: Absolutely Essential” the great exchange of our sin for Jesus’ righteousness was explained. In this message the process in which that reality works its way out in the daily lives of believers is discussed.

In Galatians 2:20 Paul states the decreed reality for him as a believer, “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live, Yet not I, Christ lives in me; and the life that I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God….” As believers embrace this identity, they experience victory in their daily lives. They usually go through some struggles as described in Romans 7. But this way of viewing ourselves can

(1) Fortify us against temptation
(2) Open us to the flow of God’s grace (divine enablement) in our lives and
(3) Stabilize our emotional state and walk with God.
