The Gospel

As our society become more pluralistic and more secularized, it is essential that Christians have a firm commitment to the Gospel as revealed in Scripture.

Some things are not negotiable, and the Gospel is one of those things.

Can you identify a perversion of the gospel? What biblical criteria will you use to make sure that the leaders you follow are being true to that revelation?

This message addresses two questions:
(1) What is the Gospel?
(2) What is the purpose of the Gospel?

Make sure the message you hear and proclaim is the real deal!

The Gospel Outline 5-24-15

Text: Rom 1:15-17, “So, as much as is in me, I am ready to preach the gospel to you who are in Rome also. 16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.”

I. What is “the gospel of Christ”?

  1. Good News
    > euaggelion: eu=good aggelos= messenger Good Message (News)
    > many deceived into thinking it’s “bad news”
  2. About Jesus
    > 1Cor. 15:1. 3-4 (death, burial, resurrection)
    > As our society becomes more pluralistic, the name of Jesus will become more and more of an issue. (Acts 4:1-2, 10-12, 17-19).> “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ….” The devil will try to shut you up!

  1. Phase 1: Justification (Rom. 1-5)
    > Rom. 5:1 “Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God throughour Lord Jesus Christ.”

    > Practical importance: no longer living under accuser condemnation

  2. Phase 2: Sanctification (Rom. 6-8 [vs 16]) > Freed from power of sin (ch 6)
    > The struggle (ch 7)
    > The Holy Spirit sanctifier (ch 8)
  3. Phase 3: Glorification (Rom. 8:16-39)
    > Rom 8:18-19 “For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy tobe compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. 19 For the earnest

expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God.”
    > Glorified and sin-free
    > “Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our

    Saviour Jesus Christ” (Titus 2:13).
